5 Ways to Enjoy Toronto this Summer

From Exploring Beautiful Parks to Taking an Old-fashioned Beer-making Class, Here Are Five Summer Toronto Activities You Don’t Want to Miss

Summer in Toronto is wonderful. Every season in the 416 has its merits, but there’s something about summer that’s particularly special--the days are longer and brighter, people seem happier, and the air practically buzzes with positive energy. All of this makes it the perfect time to get out and explore or come for a visit. Here are five ways to enjoy Toronto in the coming months you don’t want to miss.

Visit Humber Arboretum

Summer is the perfect time to visit the Humber Arboretum. Watch as the trees shake off their slumber and wake up after the long winter months. Located in the northwest corner of the city behind Humber College’s north campus, the Humber Arboretum is home to a wide variety of plant species. Smell the freshly bloomed flowers as you walk the grounds, and explore the Carolinian Bioregion--home to plants and animals that can’t be seen anywhere else in the country.

Spend a Day in High Park

Summer is lovely in Toronto’s largest public park. The cherry blossoms are blooming along its many hiking trails, and the longer days are perfect for enjoying the sun on the lakefront. With great access via public transit, a dog park, and sports facilities, High Park is a must for any summer in Toronto.

Explore the Toronto Islands

South of the city lies the Toronto Islands, a chain of 15 small islands in Lake Ontario. The only group of islands in the western part of the lake, the Toronto Islands are just a 13-minute ferry ride from the city center and have something for everyone. Take a swim at one of the many beautiful beaches, canoe or kayak around the shores, or bike to the 200-year-old Gibraltar Point lighthouse.

Walk the Distillery District

The cobblestone streets of the Historic Distillery District are a wonderful place to enjoy the warmer weather. Lined with beautiful Victorian-era buildings that once housed a large whiskey distillery, the Distillery District is now one of the premier art and culture destinations in Canada. With top restaurants and shops that are always on trend, it’s a great place to spend a summer day. Don’t miss the Sunday Market, which runs from noon until 5 p.m. on Sundays starting May 6th.

Take the Family to Black Creek Pioneer Village

If you’ve got kids, Black Creek Pioneer Village is a great place to explore in the summer. Discover the history of Canada through the eyes of a pioneer by watching it happen before your eyes. Take a guided tour, or explore the grounds on your own. With a historic brewery where you can learn to brew beer as they did in the 19th century, it’s got something for parents, too.
